Film Music Assessment Criteria

Read through the following criteria for you film music work.

Listen to examples of other pupils work in the classroom and give them a level based on the criteria below.

For each example also give them a WWW (What Went Well) and an EBI (Even Better If)

Level 5
•Some samples are used to enhance the images (such as sound effects).
•Some of the chosen “Ingredients of Music” are used to good effect.
•Some markers are added at appropriate sync-points.
•Some MIDI sound effects are recorded by the student(s), some of which reflect the actions depicted in the footage.

Level 6
•Most samples enhance the images and span beyond sound effects – instrumental samples used
•Most of the chosen “Ingredients of Music” are used to good effect
•Most of the ingredients of music have been used to compose a leitmotif
•Most markers are added at appropriate sync-points and some are used to good effect.
•Some instrumental lines are composed and recorded by the student(s), some of which clearly reflect the mood of the footage.

Level 7
•All samples enhance the video and use sound effects, instrumental loops of correct mood and timbre.
•All of the chosen “Ingredients of Music” are used to great effect.
•All of the chosen “Ingredients of Music” have been used to compose an effective leitmotif
•All markers are added at appropriate sync-points and most are used to good effect.
•Many instrumental lines are composed and recorded by the student(s), many of which clearly reflect the mood of the footage.
